Legend of the Five Rings canons

I'm not sure where best to put this, but looking more closely at the other Legend of the Five Rings nominations than I did last night when I got excited and added mine, I see that whoever nominated the other ships clearly had the old version of canon in mind — when Fantasy Flight Games bought it in 2015 they completely revamped the story and changed a lot of stuff about characters (e.g., Doji Hoturi, a man in old canon, is now Doji Hotaru, a lesbian).

none of the currently nominated ships are of interest to me personally, other than my own nomination (Hida Yakamo/Kaiu Fusao), but two of them (Bayushi Kachiko/Bayushi Shoju and Hida Kisada & Kuni Yori) could overlap with new canon, and writing for them in the new canon would be radically different than writing for them in the old canon. this could conceivably create problems if someone has a specific version of canon in mind and is matched with someone who only knows (or only wants to write) the other version.

I'm not sure what the best way to disambiguate them would be other than "L5R - old" and "L5R - new". of the nominated ships:

- Bayushi Kachiko/Doji Hoturi and Hantei XVI/Hida Tsuneo are unequivocally old canon
- Hida Yakamo/Kaiu Fusao is unequivocally new canon
- Hida Kisada & Kuni Yori could work in either (but VERY different)
- Bayushi Kachiko/Bayushi Shoju could work in either (just very different), but I'm guessing it was nominated by the same person who nominated Kachiko/Hoturi and they had old canon in mind

Yes, that's correct - I'm the nominator for L5R and I did indeed mean "Old5R" (Alderac Entertainment Group/AEG/old version canon) for all my character nominations. AO3 doesn't seem to separate out the two versions and I was using the suggested archive fandom canonical.

Alternately, if that's too much of a pain to deal with, just delete my nominations and I'll request something else.

(I actually do like both versions, just, I ran out of nomination slots lolol.)

(We will ignore that there was technically also that brief D&D/Oriental Adventures period of L5R, ahahahahaha.)

yeah, L5R - AEG and L5R - FFG would probably work — certainly it would be clear to anyone who's conscious of the fandom's history. the WotC era is why I went with "L5R - old"; "L5R - new" might also be preferable to account for the move to Edge, although it remains to be seen what (if anything) Edge will do directly with the main story, as opposed to the books Aconyte is publishing.

Hi! Not sure what happened, but the Noah/Basch nomination under FFXII seems to have the incorrect version for Noah.

It's currently: Noah fon Ronsenburg/Basch fon Ronsenburg (FFXII)

And the other Noah related tags use his proper Gabranth piping, so it might be better to change it to this:

I looked into that one when it first went through approvals--it looks like the nominated mother is the mother of both Zenin Mai AND Maki, so it's clarifying who she is, not just repeating Zenin Mai.
